The 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic debuts with a stick shift, with no automatic and all-wheel-drive options. With 543 ponies on tap, it is the brawniest manual car by Porsche.
In other words, we can term the new 911 Sport Classic an analog supercar and this is what the Porsche wanted. We can also call it a 911 Turbo S featuring a manual transmission since the Sport Classic is built on this model. It also borrows the 3.7-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine from the Turbo S, although it’s a detuned version. The engine spins the rear wheels and the car employs standard ceramic brakes, dynamic chassis control, rear-axle steering, and an active suspension management system.
Using the flared backside of the Turbo S gave the Classic a vintage, wide-body appearance, the ducktail spoiler reminds us of the 911 Carrera RS from the 1970s.
The 911 Sport Classic gets some styling aspects we don’t get in other cars from Porsche. For instance, the roof is created with carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and so is the hood, which is not available for the 911 Turbo. The fixed front lip spoiler and black LED-Matrix headlights are also unique to this car along with over-the-top striping and roundels with numbers on the doors.
Porsche also made changes to the 911 Sport Classic’s interior wrapping it in Semi-aniline leather, together with cloth seat inserts, cloth door panels, and wood trim. The analog tachometer reminds us of an old Porsche. The Classic is a four-seat car because Porsche’s aim here is to create a machine for daily driving rather than a hardcore track car.
Porsche will allow test drives for the 911 Sport Classic. The manufacturer will build 1,250 units, but it is unclear how many of them are destined for the U.S. or any GCC country.
What we do know is that it will give buyers four colour choices – Black, Agate Grey Metallic, Gentian Blue Metallic, and Sport Grey Metallic – a paint made exclusively for the Sport Classic. If you decide to buy it, you will also be able to purchase a special Sport Classic-themed watch.
The 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic will hit the roads before the end of this year.
