During the surge in camper-van popularity amid the COVID-19 pandemic, new players continue to emerge. One such entrant is War Horse All Terrain, a high-end camper van customizer based in Florida. Like many competitors, War Horse utilizes the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van as its foundation.

Their models come equipped with a base 170-hp turbo-diesel inline four-cylinder engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. These vans offer optional 4Matic all-wheel-drive and are available in both the standard 144-inch and extended 170-inch wheelbase versions. Agile Offroad provides an aftermarket suspension kit and a two-inch lift for enhanced performance, while 35-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler all-terrain tires complete the setup.

The upgraded models include enhanced climate control, water heating, laundry facilities, heated flooring, and water storage solutions. They also feature a compact kitchen and a restroom complete with toilet and shower facilities.

Once you select your vehicle size, the customization page on the War Horse site lets you pick details such as wheel type and design color, as well as interior enhancements like preferred stone for the kitchen and bathroom, and wood choices for flooring and cabinetry.

According to the site, each van accommodates four, but in our view, it’s more like two. A queen-size bed stows above, with room below for a twin mattress for two kids or one adult. Despite the nice touch of premium materials like stone and hardwood, the rear bench seats have an industrial look that’s less premium. War Horse says custom builds take 90 days, but it’s a pricey process; custom vans range from $250,000 to $300,000.
