After announcing it at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, Chevrolet has unveiled the Blazer EV. Available in front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive models, there will even be an exclusive Blazer for the Police force. The American automaker promises a maximum range of 320 miles (515 kilometers).
While we do not know the technical specifications of all the models in the lineup, we can tell the top-of-the-line SS variant will create 557 horsepower (415 kilowatts) and 648 pound-feet (879 Newton-meters) of torque. When driven with the Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode, the Blazer can hit 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in under four seconds. Chevrolet says the EV can endure a maximum of 11.5 kilowatts on a level 2 AC plug or up to 190 kW at a DC fast charger.
Exterior
The automaker offers the new Blazer in four variants: 1LT, 2LT, RS, and SS, having distinct appearances. The LT models sport monochromatic exteriors and 19-inch wheels. The RS gets a black grille and 21-inch wheels, while the SS features a black roof and 22-inch wheels.
The RS and SS grades boast LED lights on the front with the illuminated Chevy logo, which lights up upon the car’s arrival and departure. These lights also come into play when you plug the EV for charging.
Interior
The biggest highlight of the interior is a 17.7-inch diagonal display in the centre. Besides, we find an 11-inch screen for the digital instrument panel. The General Motor’s Super Cruise driver assistance tech is available for an extra price.
Interestingly, the new Chevrolet Blazer EV does not have a start button or an ignition switch. As an alternative, the EV detects the key in the driver’s hand/pocket, and he/she can simply start the vehicle by pushing the brake pedal.
The high-end RS and SS models come with extra facilities. For instance, the RS features blue and red contrasting stitching, while the SS gets a combination of Adrenaline Red and Argon Orange. Both these grades include a flat-bottom steering wheel along with heated and ventilated front seats.
Safety
All the models employ the Chevy Safety Assist suite to boost the vehicle’s safety attributes. The standard features comprise automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, following distance indicator, lane-keep assist with lane departure warning, and smart headlights. On the other hand, reverse automatic braking, and park assist are optional.
Price
The Blazer EV will hit the roads next summer, but not all variants will be available at the start. Chevy will bring the 2LT and RS first, costing $47,595 and $51,995, respectively. The flagship SS will come before the end of 2023, wearing a hefty price tag of $65,995. The entry-level 1LT will be available in Q1 2024 for an estimated price of $44,995.
It would be the time when Police Pursuit Blazer will arrive, built on the SS variant employing the most significant Ultium battery pack. It will be available in rear- and all-wheel drive configurations, boasting a customized cabin fitted with equipment appropriate for police duty.
