Ford has introduced the updated 2024 Mustang featuring an innovative tech suite and changes for the powertrains. However, few things we always loved about Mustang remain the same (which is a good thing), such as the available 5.0-litre V8, a six-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and Mustang’s attitude.
The standard 2.3-litre turbo and the abovementioned 5.0-litre mills are the same as we find in the previous models. However, there will be surprises that we exactly don’t know about right now. The automaker didn’t reveal horsepower, torque, and fuel economy figures for both powerplants.
That said, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost will be all-new, whereas the 5.0-liter will be the fourth-generation iteration of the famous Coyote V8 with twin air boxes and a pair of throttle bodies.
Regarding the gearbox, the four-cylinder models will be automatic-only because only 10 per cent of consumers asked for the EcoBoost/six-speed manual during the final time of the 6th-generation Mustang. Therefore, the six-speed manual will be replaced with a 10-speed automatic. However, the manual transmission continues for the V8 mill due to its popular demand. Both engines will send power only to the rear wheels.
Apart from the powertrain changes, there will be a lot of new techs, such as the remote engine start through the key fob and a new electronic drift brake. It is created by a Mustang enthusiast and the drift expert, Vaughn Gittin, Jr. It looks like a conventional mechanical hand brake, but it will allow starters to drift like experts. How will it be possible? Ford didn’t go into detail about that.
Besides mechanical updates, the exterior emphasizes more on customization. The Blue Oval gives you 12 varied wheel patterns, various caliper paints for the Performance Pack Brembo brakes, and of course, a variety of exterior shades.
The interior comes with finer leather and plastic finishes than before, offering a range of seat upholsteries, available shaded seat belts, and accent stitching, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a slab-designed touchscreen at the centre of the dash on most variants.
Behind the steering wheel, we find a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster that meets a 13.2-inch touchscreen angled towards the driver. The infotainment system is Sync 4 with Unreal Engine rendering remarkable graphics at a high frame rate.
The 2024 Ford Mustang will be on sale the next summer. The test drives will be available by spring 2023, and it is the time when you will know everything about the seventh-generation Mustang. The pricing and technical specifications will, however, come out before that.
