After introducing the fifth-gen Sportage late last year, Kia now unveiled the PHEV variant that would join the hybrid model in the lineup. The 2022 Kia Sportage PHEV comes in two variants: X-Line and X-Line Prestige both boasting different front and rear bumpers and chrome satin decoration for distinction. Besides, it gets gloss-black mirrors, roof rack, and window surrounds as well as nineteen-inch black alloy wheels.
Propelling the electrified crossover is a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder mill churning out 177 horsepower (130 kilowatts) assisted by a 66.9-kilowatt electric motor and 13.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-polymer battery.
A Level-2 charger can fully juice up the battery in around 120 minutes. The engine mates to a six-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel-drive. Kia claims an all-electric range of 32 miles (51 kilometers), which is pretty good for a crossover.
Just like the standard Sportage, the PHEV model comes equipped with driver attention warning, LED headlights with high-beam assist, lane following and lane-keep assists, forward collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic alert, and many more.
The X-Line Prestige is safer with smart cruise control, rear and forward parking alerts, and a blind-spot view monitor. A 360-degree surround-view monitor and a Harman Kardon premium audio system are also part of the package.
The 2022 Kia Sportage PHEV should be here in the third quarter. The pricing and fuel economy figures will be available closer to the launch. For reference, the entry-level Sportage starts at AED 72,900. Expect the PHEV variant a lot more expensive than this.
