The Swedish automaker has unveiled their first zero-emission vehicle, the 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge, which rides on the same platform as used by the regular XC40. The all-electric vehicle carries a 78-kWh battery pack under the front seats and features two 150-kW motors (one on each axle). Collectively, these motors generate 402 horsepower and 448 pound-feet of torque. The XC40 Recharge can hit 96.5 km/h in 4.7 seconds.
The most crucial aspect for any electric vehicle is its drive range and the charging time. The 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge does an excellent job in both departments. The automaker says it can cover 400 km on the European WLTP cycle and 322 km on the EPA cycle. The drivers will be able to gain an 80% charge in only 40 minutes on a 150-kW charger.
Similar to Tesla vehicles, the 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge will get over-the-air software updates. Moreover, it will feature a new Android-based infotainment system jointly created by Volvo and Google. The infotainment system boasts Google Assistant, Google Maps, and other valuable apps.
Volvo has always given priority to safety, and the 2021 XC40 Recharge is no different. It comes equipped with the updated Pilot Assist driver-assistance suite along with a new active safety platform.
Volvo says it will start sending these electric vehicles to showrooms before the end of next year, wearing a price tag of $48,000 (approximately). Customers will also enjoy the $7,500 federal tax credit.
Volvo is not just making electric cars; their focus is on employing renewable energy and recycling to minimize carbon footprint. Moreover, they are going to introduce the Volvo Recharge Line, which aims at creating a plug-in hybrid variant for every model they sell.
